Cattleya guttata is one of the more venerable members of the Brazilian Cattleyas, having been described by Lindley (the man who discovered the first Cattleya) in 1831 (Botanical Register) from specimens collected by Robert Gordon in 1827. On some Cattleya Guttata we see one of the brown color forms of Cattleya guttata. Color varies from green to yellow to brown, almost always with strong brown spotting on the segments; the lips are always lavender with white to lavender side lobes.
