Hawaiian grown dendrobium orchids are different than their Thailand or Singapore grown counterparts. Hawaiian orchids like these dendrobium beauties produce long 18 to 24 inch stems with a profusion of flowers. The stalk (that part where the flower stem was cut and where the first flower appears) is short, usually a few inches. The short stalk makes it difficult to display hawaiian orchids in a glass vase. They are more readily used in oasis foam which allows the short stem to be inserted thus serving as a prop for the orchid stem. You can use hawaiian orchids to decorate a birthday cake or to make your own orchid lei.
