The MOMET™ is a tool to help orchid growers understand when an orchid plant needs watering. The unit was developed over a period of 2 years using new technology and copyrighted software (patent pending).
The MOMET™ was designed specifically for orchids but will work with other plants and potting mixes. The unit has 2 probes and LED lights that flash indicating moisture level in bark/chips or moss/soil. It is easy to use and comes with instructions and a watering guide. The unit’s design and packaging are attractive for retail sales and unlike any other moisture meter.
The MOMET™ can be used to test individual orchids and plant mixes, but is also a useful tool to sample test a few plants in a large growing area to determine overall watering requirements.
The MOMET™ comes with a 90 day limited warranty.

* Additional Information
Being
that orchid plants have different watering requirements at different
times of year or different stages of development we have developed a
chart (above) to help you know when to water.
This chart is accurate for the types of plants grown but we would like to recommend the following:
When Orchid plants are in bud or flower allow the mix to approach
dryness (yellow). Do not allow the mix to dry to the point that the red
LED flashes. Premature flower loss will result.
When
you insert the MOMET™ probes into bark or chip mixes you may notice
that when the mix is near dryness the top inch and a half to two inches
may read red (dry), the middle part of the mix may read yellow
(approaching dryness) and the bottom inch of the mix may read green
(wet).
When this reading occurs in summer months it
is acceptable to water certain varieties of Orchids. Many plants are
actively growing new leaves and roots (or in some cases developing
flowers). At this reading it is acceptable to water Lady Slipper
Orchids like Paphiopedilums and Phragmipediums regardless of whether or
not they have flowers. It is also a good time to water Cattleyas,
Dendobiums, Phalaenopsis, Vandas or Oncidums and their intergeneric
hybrids if they are in spike or flower as they are actively absorbing
moisture to support flower development.
During winter
months Cattleyas, Vandas and Dendrobiums generally like to dry out
between watering (red LED). Other orchids want to approach dryness in
winter, including: Paphiopedilums, Phragmipediums and Phalaenopsis
(yellow LED). If in doubt always trust the MOMET™.
