About Our Black Orchid
1888Orchids.com is proud to have this orchid available year around. We grow three varieties of orchids - all of them are Phalaenopsis types: 1) Phalaenopsis Ever spring Prince "Black Bird," Phalaenopsis Ever spring Prince "Black Eagle" and Phalaenopsis Ever spring Prince "Black Jack." The flowers on all these orchids are black or a very dark maroon. At first glance, the orchid definitely appears black. The buds are usually black with a mixture of green so the buds look black and slightly gray. The flowers are waxy and hard to the touch. We combine our orchids with either a black pot or planter and black bamboo. The result is a very special orchid gift.
More Information About Black Orchids
One of the darkest black orchids I have seen was a freak of nature. The name of the orchid is Paphiopedilum Astro Boy (Makuli x rothschildianum). This is a rare lady slipper orchid but it is not a black orchid. The flowers of this lady slipper type orchid resemble Paphiopedilum St. Swithin but this orchid was definitely black. Here is a picture of the orchid.
