Are orchids poisonous to pets? Last Updated: 04/10/2008 |
|
If your cat eats your orchid, get rid of the cat. But don't worry, I don't know of any orchids being poisonous so your cat will live. If your pet ingests orchid foliage or yikes... an orchid bloom, it may experience some vomiting and stomach irritation but rest assured, orchids are non-toxic. Accept these symptoms as punishment for your pet for eating your orchid.
Actually, we sell cut dendrobium orchid flowers that are used to decorate cakes or to garnish food. Orchids are very alluring and if I was a cat, I'd want to take a closer look too, maybe even a bite. There are many pet repellents on the market that you can spray around your orchid to keep furry creatures away from your orchids. You can also place the orchid somewhere high where your cat or dog won't get to it. If none of these techniques work, you will be faced with a dilemma; keeping your orchid or keeping your furry, feline, friend. |
