The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History Hosts the Annual Orchid Show
The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History hosts the annual orchid show, this time with a theme that celebrates the bicentennial of the birth of Charles Darwin. The English naturalist used orchids to help forge his ideas about evolution and ultimately wrote a book about fertilizing the plants. The show, which opens Jan. 24, includes several types of orchids and a piece of amber that encloses a now-extinct bee carrying orchid pollen; it also features displays about orchids that look like female bees or mimic bee pheromones to speed the pollination process. Winter Carnival Orchid Show ~ January 24 & 25
Escape to a tropical wonderland with the largest display of privately owned orchids in the region
During the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, winter and all it's glory, snow, ice and frigid temperatures, are celebrated. One event stands out and gives attendees a way to escape to the tropics without even getting on a plane, the Winter Carnival Orchid Show at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory January 24 and 25.
The Winter Carnival Orchid Show will be held on January 24 and 25 at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in Saint Paul from 10am to 4pm . The Orchid Society of Minnesota (OSM) is organized and operated for educational pur poses and seeks to introduce people to the beauty, variety and complexity of orchids by shows, meetings, plant sales and speakers. OSM educates people about culture, conservation, propagation and care of orchids. OSM meets the third Saturday of every month at 1pm in the Heritage Room at Bachman's -6010 Lyndale Ave South , Minneapolis . New members are always welcome.

Orchid Daze: Towers of Flowers
Be inspired by towering columns and walls spilling with fragrant orchids. Exotic beauties soar with lush green and silver foliage to create stunning living mosaics in the Fuqua Orchid Center. An annual tradition since 2003, Orchid Daze highlights the Garden's world-renowned orchid collection. The largest of its kind in the United States, the collection contains approximately 10,000 specimens.  9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Sunday.  April 11. Kew Gardens is hosting a month-long orchid festival to showcase thousands of exotic orchids and tropical plants. The Tropical Extravaganza festival is being held in the Princess of Wales Conservatory and will open on Saturday. It features a tiered "biodiversity" island, decorated with hundreds of varieties of orchids, bromeliads and anthuriums. Some of the plants were bought fresh from Denmark, two weeks before the start of the festival. It runs from Saturday 6 February to Sunday 7 March. For more information, visit: http://www.kew.org/

Febuary 20-21 — Gardena Cymbidium Club’s 23rd annual Cymbidium Orchid Show will be held at the Nakaoka Memorial Community Center, 1670 W. 162nd St., Gardena, on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20-21. Public plant sales begin on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Display of orchids will open to the public at noon. The show will be open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission. Over 300 hybridized Cymbidium plants, grown primarily by club members, will be on exhibit.
