Orchid Plants and Water - How to Water Orchid Plants

You can't over water orchid plants if you follow these tips

orchid plants and water
I like to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, it's supposed to be good for you.  It has become a habit.  Some days I drink more than others, when I don't feel like drinking the whole glass.. instead of pouring the water down the drain, I water my orchid plants, which sit on the windowsill of my kitchen.  Is this wrong to pour the unused water that you didn't drink and water my orchid plants? I don't think there is anything wrong with it.  My goal is to keep those orchid plants alive and if it means sharing water from my drinking glass, then i will do it.  I have also made a discovery.  If the orchid plants are in a pot with good drainage, meaning the orchid plant is not sitting in water, you really can't over water the orchid.  Over watering an orchid usually happens when the pot of the orchid sits in the water.  A quick whiff of the water will tell you if there is any symbiosis going on.. if the water smells like, umm.. (I can't use the word here) then you must figure out a way so the orchid plant does not sit in water.  Try adding a lifter between the pot and the planter whereby the lifter sits in water, not the orchid pot.  The goal is to keep the orchid plant clean and smelling good.

Did you know that more orchid die from over-watering than not enough water? This is an interesting anomoly for the orchid lover but an easy one to solve.  The reason may be because orchids are very resilient.  I have seen orchid plants growing on cactus in Mexico.  It was a Cattleya, the true air plant, flourishing under dry conditions.
